THE FOOD OBSESSION
I am in Colorado this week playing private Chef for my family, and I tend to forget how superior the summer produce is here. PALISADES PEACHES are my obsession this week. They are the size of a softball and have the most amazing flavor of any peach I have ever had. What do you think the side effects of eating too many peaches is?
I served Grilled Peaches with Burrata and Green Olives at my Mom’s dinner party last night and it was a huge hit. This is exactly the time to make this salad.
Or make a quick Peach Pavlova…… this is what I ended up serving at my dinner parties this week. DIVINE.
THE STUFF OBSESSION
MY CAN OPENER → I will never buy another one, and my daughter may not either. It’s german, and they just make shit that works for lifetimes. I also just love how it cuts right below the lip of the can, so you can put the top back on (uhhmmm annoying tomato paste can).
MY KNIFE → I have over a dozen knives, but this is and will always be my favorite knife. It’s on sale on the Tik Top shop, or you can grab it HERE. I love it for three reasons. 1. It sharpens fast 2. It stays sharper than my Japanese knives for longer 3. It ergonomically fits my hand. A knife is an extension of your hand, so it should fit you hand first and foremost. Shop around for the deal on this one. You can find it for $30 sometimes.
UMAMI SALT → aka “my precious” this salt has been the topic of much discussion online this week, so I found for you online (I bought mine in Japan), so you too can have umami salt. Its a salt from Australia, shipped to Japan and fortified with kelp, mushroom and scallop to give the most amazing umami flavor to anything (next level tomato sandwich). Honestly this is where I spend money. A great salt can make a shit steak taste like magic.
THE MUSIC OBSESSION(S)
Raw Cuts
I have been a straight up dance music girl since I walked into my first rave in 1989 in Phoenix. I certainly don’t get out to the club much, but I LOVE to listen to DJ sets on You Tube. It’s incredible to watch the brands that have formed around dance music like BOILER ROOM. I found their successor this week —> RAW CUTS. Even if you don’t LOVE electronic music, its hard not to feel a little more happy when you throw headphones on.
2ManyDjs
…is made up of Belgian brothers Steven and David Dewaele, who you might also know as two members of the alternative/electronic rock group, Soulwax. They're pioneering figures in the electronic music scene who gained significant recognition for their innovative approach to DJing and music production. They operate both as Soulwax (their rock/electronic band) and as 2 Many DJs (their DJ project)
I have followed them since they hit the scene in the late 90’s and they have continued to be weird and do ground breaking shit. One of my music highlights of 2024 was seeing Soulwax at iii Points in Miami. I still talk about that performance. The most bad ass stage set up (3 live drummers) and the drum solos are INSANE. This performance was somewhere between the future and the past.
I found THIS SET the other day as 2ManyDJ’s and you just need to bookmark this bitch for a bad day. It’s impossible to be in a bad mood after this set. No one does a mash up set like these guys. I am cooking a big dinner party for my family tonite and I have been dancing all day. Sing along, beat on the counter tops kinda vibes.
Wheels up for Japan in just over a week……ohhhh get ready.
Have a great week,
SG
